For those who have not heard, the Rainbow Archives is a special collection held within the Mitchell Library, part of the State Library of NSW.  The Rainbow Archives has been established to preserve documentation of Australia’s alternative movement. 

 

Types of materials collected include:

  • Personal and group correspondence

  • photos

  • pamphlets

  • diaries, maps

  • posters

  • programs

  • etc.

The range of the collection is very broad indeed and included:

  • Green

  • hippie

  • rural resettlement

  • New Age

  • Eastern religions

  • anarchist

  • Spiritualist

  • astrology

  • permaculture

  • commune

  • beat

  • and other aspects of alternative Australia, past and present.
