Return to Active NSW Lets Page

As at 25th July,,  2005

Perhaps some enterprising person might resurrect some of them.

If anyone has more information on these defunct systems, especially the location of the old books and records, it would be useful to anyone wishing to resurrect them.  Does anyone know of other defunct NSW systems omitted here?

ARMIDALE

2350 a.k.a. NETLETS [New England Tablelands] Believed to be centred around the University, and it even had a dentist at one stage.

BARRABA LETS

BLUE MOUNTAINS LETS

KATOOMBA. In the early 1990’s Blue Mountains LETS was the largest LETSystem in Australia with over 1,000 family memberships, then it declined to just  45 about two years ago and now appears to be defunct.  In 2002 an attempt was made to reinvent BML.  Member  Michael looked forward with optimism and hope for a new system that would be sustainable in its workings and operations.   However, their  website has been discontinued, and the PO Box relinquished. Michael and Vera [ ph 4782 5375 azura@pnc.com.au] are no longer the contacts. Meanwhile, some of the old members were still trading amongst themselves without recording transactions c. 2002.  In March 2003 three   professors  of economics from Kobe Uni visited Canberra to interview a former coordinator of BML LETS [Heather]; they also visited Katoomba, but found that Katoomba Council staff had little to do with BML in its hay day.  They did learn that an individual donated $10,000 for the purchase of office equipment, and a grant of $35,000 was obtained; founder/s and coordinator/s were initially paid in $’s.
