The resource list and contact list are sent to members every two months in the mail, arriving, we hope,
early in the odd months.
Three times a year, it's a full list (Jan, May, Sep).
For the other three times it's an update only on the previous list (Mar, Jul, Nov).
You can see the full up-to-date resource list, but no contact details,
here.
In fact if you have internet access you don't even need the resource list on paper.
People can register as many different skills as they like, in the resource list. A skill should appear under only one heading. Members receive a printed reminder of the resources they offer in the mail with their Newsletter and resource list, and members can amend their entries at any time. Byemail is convenient for everyone.
Members sometimes wonder why they seem to be in the "wrong" category. It's because, if there's a choice, we pick the more specific heading. Thus, a professional counsellor would go under Counselling rather than Professional. Motor mechanics go into Cars/boats/planes rather than Trades/technical. And there are still a few anomalies that we're working on.
The contact list is something else again, because without that, all you know is that #825 of Woolloongabba fixes leaky taps, for example. You need the contact list to find out #825's first name (or nickname) and phone number and email address. Only members get that, in the mail.
Advertising in the newsletter is good. It comes out six times a year and advertising
in it is very effective. Members pay for ads in Units, not dollars. In an ad, you have the
freedom to express your services in your own words. (The resource list is usually too brief
to explain things fully.)
The Notice Board is an internet thing, and so reaches only a minority of our members.
It needs more people to be effective but we still hope it will pick up. Potentially, it's an excellent way to communicate,
especially for needs and requirements.
Personal representation is perhaps the best way to get trading. People who attend meetings and trading days get to meet others
and do a lot of work from the personal contact. There's no substitute.
Word of mouth can have a positive or negative effect. Your efforts will be discussed widely on the grapevine, and if you
are good, you will get many more requests for your services. We strongly advise new members to attend
meetings and get to know other members, who will point out the best person to do a job properly.
