Actually, LETS and LETSystem were the first names we applied in 1982.
"LETS" because it stood for "enable, allow, invite, co-operate, etc" and all such things, and because "Let's" was not really a usable name.
But that's what LETS stands for in our original conception.
LETSystem was the official term because it was a brandable identification, and could be copyrighted, and trademarked.
Then people insisted that "LETS" must stand for something. So we said, how about - Local Exchange Trading System

Local Energy Transfer System,
Light Exchange Token Service,
Let's Eat Together Soon,
etc etc ad nauseam

In my home town it has been called Linton's Extraordinary Total Screwup. Go figure.

Basically, it matters less what it's called, more that it's done and most that it's done right. In that context, it is my personal opinion that John Turmel's "engineering" designs, particularly his so-called "UNILETS" model, are generally well intentioned, but fundamentally flawed.
So, while we appreciate his intention, WE STRONGLY ADVISE ALL TO IGNORE HIS PROPOSALS.
We even more strongly urge you to attend to ours.
